indeed, sometimes the chair gets backed up a few feet and the speakers toed in.

The setup is a bit different now than it was in that pic. Since i've lost a bunch of room, the 9849's are on top of the Renkus duplexes, but ideally i need to get them up 2 feet higher so they can enjoy the immediate boundary effect of the ceiling.

Funny thing, the Altec monitors that were engineered to be mounted high up like that, sound best that way.

but wouldn't it sound a lot better if you backed up your chair about 20 feet?

Actually, that chair is still almost within the sweet spot from the other side of the room where the Krell FPB powered Westlake monitors reside.
